When it comes to your Natural hair you must give it what it need and want. You can’t do what everyone tells you to do and you can’t do what everyone else is doing. You must do what works best for you and your curls, and trust me your curls will definitely let you know what they like and dislike.
When it comes to starting a Natural Hair Regimen you will face trial and error but that’s apart of the Beautiful Journey we’re on. The first step in starting your regimen is knowing your hair porosity and the second step is finding the right products for your porosity.
So with that being said I am going to discuss the foundation of Wash Day.
Your Wash Day is the Start to a Great and Long Lasting Hairstyle for the week. And what does that mean, It means are you using the right Cleansing product for your Curls/Coils.
For some, a Co wash is a great thing this might be their go to Wash Day cleansing product. But even though it’s cleaning your hair to a certain extent, Is it really removing all of the products that’s on your hair and scalp that you’ve piled up on your strands throughout the week?
A good moisturizing shampoo not only removes dirt and build up from your hair and scalp but it also (like in it’s name) keeps your curls moisturized while cleaning it at the sametime. Getting rid of all the products you’ve piled up throughout the week on your hair laying that foundation for a perfect long lasting and moisturized hairstyle.
A clarifying shampoo does exactly what the name says CLARIFY meaning it strips your hair and scalp from the product buildup you have, Including your own natural sebum (oils). This is something that you should not do so often in your wash day routine but more like once a month or if you have alot of build up and dandruff that a co wash or moisturizing shampoo just can’t get rid of. Still you don’t want to do this often because it will dry your hair out and eventually cause breakage. BUT it still should be apart of your regimen. Remember Hair cant grow out the scalp if your pores are clogged with dirt, oil and all the junk that’s in our environment.
*Before you just pick up any Shampoo remember to read what the description says, know what it is that your looking for. Are you looking for something moisturizing or are you looking for something to clarify!!
QUICK TIP: Coconut, Avocado, Olive Oil, Sunflower, Honey are just a few examples of moisturizing products…. Whereas Apple Cider Vinegar, Tea Tree, Peppermint are in clarifying Products.
After washing out my Deep Conditioner I followed up with moisturizing my hair using the LCO method which is Leave in conditioner, Cream and Oil/Butter then oiled my scalp with my DIY (Do It Yourself) hair growth oil.
Once my hair has been Moisturized I added a few pumps of Mousse to set my hair back in Place
Lastly I grabbed my Satin scarf and tied my hair down to set everything until it dries
And thats it my Wash day with Box Braids is complete 🙂
